Instructor:
Judy Crane
Class Code: TH905
Sponsored by: Winsor &
Newton, Fredrix Canvas
Workshop fee: $95
Skill level: All
Medium: Oil
Time: Thursday, November 12,
2009 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Create more interesting
landscape compositions using the
design technique of a pathway to
lead the viewer’s eye into the
painting. Learn how to use light
and shadow to keep the design
interesting and create depth
with color and value. Judy will
provide photo subject matter and
demonstrate the techniques for
making a painting in a very
direct and quick manner. This
technique will allow the student
to go home with a completed
painting after this 3-hour
course. There is no need to
labor over a small painting for
days and weeks. You can loosen
up and enjoy the experience!
Students are encouraged to bring
their oil supplies if they have
them and a tabletop easel. Judy
will have some paints and
brushes to share for those
unequipped. Small canvases will
be provided for every one as
well as odorless mineral
spirits.

Time: Friday, November 13, 2009 5:00 p.m. –

This workshop will take away the mystery of
painting green. Learn to mix wonderful, varied,
exciting, and natural greens that will keep
landscape painting exciting and interesting,
even if it is mostly green. Students will learn
to mix greens of all shades that will add
harmony and interest to the landscape painting,
using a limited palette and no green paint.
Learn about the value, temperature and tones of
greens and how a different red makes a different
green!
Students will paint a small landscape from
subject matter provided by the instructor. Judy
will provide canvas surfaces to work on, paints,
mineral spirits, and limited brushes. Students
are encouraged to bring their own table top
easel, brushes for variety and a palette knife
if they like.
